"I'm very excited to acquire Lydia as she brings a wealth of international experience to our squad. She has played in the NWSL, so she understands what playing in this league is all about,” Dash head coach Randy Waldrum said.

The 27 year old is no stranger to the American leagues have played for the Chicago Red Stars (in the former WPS) and Western New York Flash in the 2014 NWSL season.
It was while playing for Flash that the custodian ruptured her ACL for a second time forcing a successful rush to be ready for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.

A two time W-League Goalkeeper of the Year, the Canberra product is a sought after recruit with her dual AUS/USA citizenship (through her mother's side) meaning Williams does not claim an international spot.

"Her ability to lead a quality international team like Australia from the back is very attractive to us as we look to improve on our fifth place finish from last season,” Dash goalkeeper coach Tom Brown said.
“She had a solid [2015 FIFA Women’s] World Cup which included a fantastic save against Brazil that helped Australia advance in the tournament."

Arriving in Houston, Williams will also be greeted with a familiar face with Canberra teammate Ellie Brush currently signed with the Dash.
Williams will be added to the roster pending receipt of her International Transfer Certificate (ITC) with her arrival in Houston dependent on the Matildas 2016 AFC Olympic Qualification tournament commencing this month.
