Sydney FC have bolstered their squad for the 2017/18 W-League season with the signing of Matildas veteran Lisa De Vanna.
A three time W-League champion, De Vanna joins the club after a premiership winning season with Canberra United in Season 9.
The 32 year old striker is one of the most decorated players in Australian football with over 120 caps including appearances at 3 World Cups, 2 Olympic Games and 4 Asian Cups. She is currently the Matildas all time leading goalscorer.
“I’m really excited to be representing Sydney FC this season,” she said.
“Under Ante Juric I believe the Sky Blues are capable of special things, I want to be a part of a Championship winning team, and I believe this is the right place to be for that." De Vanna
“The support I have outside of football and the opportunities off the field are important reasons for making the move and I’m thankful for the people I have around me.
On the domestic front, De Vanna has racked up trophies at Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City and Canberra United.
De Vanna, who has scored 33 goals in 81 W-League appearances, will represent her seventh club after previous stints at Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar, Newcastle Jets, Melbourne Victory, Melbourne City and Canberra United.
De Vanna will boost Ante Juric's attack that includes Caitlin Foord (currently in Japan), Leena Khamis and Young Matildas strikers Remy Siemsen and Princess Ibini.
“Lisa is a proven performer and is clearly one of Australia’s all-time greats when it comes to talent produced. More importantly for Sydney FC is that she is driven and wants to add positively to that reputation she has forged,” he said.
“I’m really pleased to have her on board at Sydney FC. I believe her signing will add valuable experience to a team that has lots of youth. These young players will no doubt look to learn from Lisa, which in turn will help the team achieve varied goals for the 2017/18 season."
“I look forward to getting Lisa in at training and working with her again, and seeing her produce her best football yet in the W-League this year.”
Sydney FC will open the 10th season of the W-League with a clash against traditional rivals Brisbane Roar on 27 October 2017.
