Melbourne City have announced their first signing with Matildas captain Lisa De Vanna to spearhead the new W-League side.
"We are very proud and honoured to have Lisa as our first W-League player," said coach Joe Montemurro.
"We all know what Lisa has achieved as a Matilda and to have a player of her stature come to Melbourne City FC in its inaugural season is something the whole Club is excited about."
De Vanna comes off her third World Cup campaign which saw the 30 year old lead the Matildas to their third straight quarter final berth as well as becoming one of the leading World Cup goalscorers of all time.
For De Vanna it will be her fourth W-League club in eight seasons with two championships under her belt as well as being the 5th All time W-League goalscorer. In a big coup for City, De Vanna was sold on Melbourne Victory's rivals in no time.
“Joe approached me a few months ago about playing for City and he invited me to come and visit the City Football Academy,” De Vanna said.
“After 10 minutes of being there I was sold to the idea of playing for City; it’s a great opportunity and I’m quite honoured to be part of it.”
With arguably one of Australia's greatest ever footballers on their books, City look to hit the ground running in their inaugural season.
