Former Matildas attacking midfielder Lisa Casagrande has been inducted into the Football Federation Australia Hall of Fame.

Casagrande becomes the 15th Matilda to receive the honour and was inducted alongside indigenous pioneer John Moriarty.

"I had the dreams of one day doing that," she said of her induction.

"I had hoped it would become a reality."

"Now that it has... it's a nice time to reflect on the achievements and accomplishments I had been able to do and it's a great event to be a part of."

Unlike several of her fellow Hall of Fame inductees, the career of Casagrande started and ended early.

The Lismore product made her Matildas debut at 14-years-old against Japan in 1994.

Over a year later, and just days after her 17th birthday she made her World Cup debut against Denmark on 6 June 1995.

Four days later, Casagrande become Australia's youngest ever World Cup goalscorer – 17 years and 12 days - when she gave Australia the lead against the United States in an eventual 4-1 defeat.

Her eight year career with the Matildas saw Casagrande go on to amass 64 caps for Australia – including becoming the youngest player to reach 50 internationals - feature in 2 World Cups and score 13 goals.

“Lisa Casagrande and John Moriarty rightfully join the legends of the game in the Hall of Fame,” said FFA CEO David Gallop.

“Lisa’s story is an amazing one having come into the Matildas at such a young age and then going on to have the impact that she had."

As well as lining up for Australia, Casagrande played three seasons (1999 – 2001) with the University of Portland Pilots; a program whose alumni include Tiffeny Milbrett, Shannon MacMillan, Megan Rapinoe, Christine Sinclair and Sophie Schmidt.

Since retiring at 22 years old, Casagrande has been named in Northern New South Wales football Team of the Era and the FFA Team of the Decade (1990 – 1999).

"It's amazing to be recognised for the work done previously."

"A wonderful occasion to celebrate, to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and be acknowledged."
