Seattle Reign and Melbourne Victory continue to cement their ties with the confirmation Reign defender Lauren Barnes with join Victory for the 2014 W-League season.

The 25 year old returns to the club on the back of a highly successful guest stint in Season 6.

"Lauren was an asset to the team in its championship success last season, not only as a highly accomplished player but also as a great leader," said head coach Joe Montemurro.

"This is a big coup for the club and we're thrilled to have her back."

On the recommendation of midfielder Jessica Fishlock, Barnes joined the Victory during the end stretch of the Victory's championship campaign and made an immediate impact.

Her versatility saw Barnes deployed in all positions from attack to defence but most effectively as a holding midfielder.

Playing every minute of the five guest stint matches, Barnes was an important piece of the Victory team scoring crucial goals for the club including the winning penalty in a tense semi final against Sydney FC and a stunning volley in the grand final.

Barnes is the Victory’s second international signing following on from Reign FC teammate Elli Reed.

Both players are eligible to play every match of the regular season and finals series from Round 3 onwards, as well as the International Women's Club Championship in Tokyo in December, which Victory qualified for as the Australian champion.

Melbourne Victory begins its title defence away to Newcastle Jets on September 13.
