Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva was the star at 2018 Australian Gymnastics Championships last night in the first day of senior Rhythmic Gymnastics competition.
The dual Commonwealth Games Bronze Medallist is the first year competing at the Senior International level.
The 16-year-old had a stunning performance with the ball, it was the same routine which earnt her a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in April and improved upon her score from the Gold Coast with a 14.400.
However, on her second and final apparatus of the night, she had an error-riddled hoop performance.
Kiroi-Bogatyreva had to retrieve the spare apparatus from the side when a missed catch meant her hoop ended up out of area but the superior difficulty of her performance led her to still post one of the highest scores of the night; a 12.250.
A combined total of 26.650 places her on top of the leaderboard for the Australian All-Around Title heading into Day 2 of competition and is back in action tonight from 5pm.
