Matildas captain Sam Kerr scored twice as Chelsea thrashed Leicester City 9-0 to top the Women's Super League for the first time this season.

Chelsea were 4-0 ahead after 10 minutes stunning the home fans in a match played at their hosts' main King Power Stadium.

Besides Kerr's double Guro Reiten and Beth England also grabbed two goals while Aniek Nouwen, Lauren James and Jessie Fleming scored once.

With five matches left defending champions Chelsea are a point clear of Arsenal, who they meet in the FA Cup semi-final next month.

Manchester United defeated Everton 3-1 in the first women's match to be played in front of fans at Old Trafford. Boosted by free tickets a club record 20241 watched United move into third, five points behind Arsenal.

In the day's third match a West Ham team including Australians Tameka Yallop and Mackenzie Arnold were beaten 2-0 at home by Brighton.
