Westfield Matildas and Brisbane Roar defender Elise Kellond-Knight has been ruled out of the Westfield W-League season after sustaining a partial tear of her anterior cruciate ligament in Denmark last night.Fears began mounting when the 21 year old was substituted in the 11th minute of her Danish club Fortuna Hjørring's Round of 16 Women's Champions League clash with Göteborg FC. Those fears were later confirmed by an MRI scan and Kellond-Knight herself on twitter.

In a bad year for knees in Australian women's football, Kellond-Knight becomes the fifth player to be cut down due to a knee injury with Katie Gill, Sam Kerr, Lauren Colthorpe and Victoria Balomenos all currently on the sidelines.

It was a devastating blow for the defender after a stellar year in which her performances at the World Cup garnered a place on the FIFA Women's World Cup All Star team as well as the PFA and FFA Female Footballer of the Year Awards.

Kellond-Knight will now return to Australia to undergo surgery next week before beginning a 9 – 12 month rehabilitation.
