Following weeks of big name announcements, the Newcastle Jets have finally announced their full squad for the 2011/12 Westfield W-League. While the previously announced Melissa Barbieri, Lisa De Vanna and German World Cup winner Ariane Hingst are definite star attractions, the Jets squad is also chock full of young up and coming Australian footballers.
Young Matildas trio Alanna Kennedy, Linda O’neill and Nicola Bolger have been lured across from Sydney FC alongside national teammate Emily Van Egmond returning home from Canberra United.
Several players from the last couple of seasons have been retained including Gema Simon, Stacey Day and Young Matildas’ trio Tara Andrews, Hannah Brewer and Alex Huynh.
A noticeable omission is last season’s captain Hayley Crawford with the 27 year old quitting the club and will be sitting the W-League season out.
