Ahead of a crucial match with Canberra United, Thorlakson will again be the focal point of Victory's attack.
Katie, how did playing for the Victory come about?
A girl I grew up with played for the Melbourne Victory last year and so I got some information from her. Then a couple of emails later I was coming over here.
You have the ability to play all year round in the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. Was that one of the factors in coming down?
Yes. We are kinda in an off-season back home in Canada. Time wise it is a really good season for us to be a part of.
Melbourne Victory and yourself have had a good season. What were your initial thoughts on the League?
Initially I didn’t really know what to expect but I have been pleasantly surprised. It has been competitive and there has been a really good atmosphere. I have been really liking Australia so far. It's very similar to Vancouver.
How do you compare your level with the other girls?
I wouldn't say I was ahead or behind. I would say that experience wise there is a lot of young girls in the League.
Playing for as long as I have, I have more experience. But I am coming off a couple of injuries so I am just looking to have a positive season behind my belt. Hopefully we will come out with the Championship at the end.
The Australian game is know world wide for its toughness. Was that something you had to adjust to?
No. Being from Canada we also have a really physical game. Also playing in the East in the US for school, we have the same mentality so it wasn't really an adjustment at all. It's kinda how I play so it works.
How have you found Melbourne the City and the Club?
I really like the city. It's really similar to Vancouver and I like the culture and the atmosphere. I like how you can have a coffee and go for lunch. It's very social and I have been really liking it.
As far as the club, I have made some friends and I have been really happy to be a part of it and playing games.
How did you begin football?
I started playing when I was about 5 years old and I have been playing ever since.
In Canada is football a big sport for girls?
Yeah, I think participation wise it is the largest sport for girls and it just keeps on growing. The same as in Australia.
Have you always known you wanted to make a career out of the sport?
I think I kinda just fell into it. I just continued playing and opportunities just kept coming. Now I'm 24 and I'm still able to play the game I love so I'm pretty lucky.
What are your goals for your football?
I want to get back into the Canadian squad and make the 2011 World Cup and the 2012 Olympic Games. That's where my goals are.
