Football West, who oversee the management and conduct of the Perth Glory Women's team, has released New Zealander Emma Kete and Norwegian Lisa Marie Woods from its playing roster for the 2011/12 Westfield W-League season.

Kete and Woods, just recently joined the Glory in the last fortnight, were informed by the club that they are free to return home or seek alternative opportunities with other clubs.

"Athletes playing at this highest level of the sport are subject to public scrutiny and codes of behaviour and when these are broken and taken advantage of, it is necessary to act swiftly and fairly for the benefit of overall team harmony." said Football West Chief Executive Peter Hugg.

It is understood by The WomensGame  that the decision came following an incident between the two players following a heated training session.  It is believed that Kete and Woods, who shared accommodation for a brief period, entered into a physical altercation which led to the expulsion of the players. TWG has also been told that a distraught Kete expressed her intention to remain with the club to no avail and will be departing Perth this afternoon (WST) for New Zealand.

This is the latest in a long line of blows for the West Australian club following the losses of star players Katie Gill, Sam Kerr and Collette McCallum and a recent 11 - 0 loss to Sydney FC at the weekend.

"Whilst performances on the park haven't been as good as we all may like, we are in a stage of rebuilding a young squad following the injuries to Westfield Matildas Katie Gill and Sam Kerr, and the absence of national team vice-captain Collette McCallum, and we support Jamie and his efforts to implement a high performance environment where individual issues make way for the greater good of the team."

Football West has informed Perth Glory and the FFA, and are investigating options for possible replacements at this late stage of the season.

No further comment will be made on the subject by the club as the team prepares for a crucial home match on Saturday 10 December against Melbourne Victory at Inglewood's 6PR Stadium at 4pm.

More to come...
