A foot injury has forced Matildas forward Sam Kerr out of contention for the Matildas 2016 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers.

Kerr was ruled out for the season following a ruptured ligament in her foot against Brisbane Roar early in the W-League.

The Perth Glory captain underwent surgery to stablise the ligament and was in a boot for most of the latter part of last season.

“I’ll be right for August,” Kerr told The West.

“But if I don’t rehab well it will be sore for ever, so now I can focus and relax, take my mind off football and do it the right way rather than rush it.”

It is another injury set back for the exciting 22 year old who last year successfully raced against time to be fit for Australia's World Cup campaign, where she played a significant role in the Matildas progress to the quarter finals.

The full Matildas 20 player squad will be announced today at 10.30am AEDT.
