Hull took the lead with 100 to go and surged in the final stretch to run a personal best of 4:08.75. 

"I tried to run smooth and not let the emotions get in the way," she told LetsRun.com.

"That was so special and I will never forget that." 

It was a rainy day at the Historic Hayward Field but Hull showed no signs of having any issues with the wet track.

She had qualified second fastest for the final in the fastest semi-final on Friday AEST which saw Elinor Purrier run a PB of 4:10.08.

Hull also ran PB of 4:10.09 as they almost simultaneously past the finish line. 

In the final, Purrier led from the gun so Hull stayed composed and waited for the chance to present itself.

"The race isn't over until the line," Hull said.
