The Hockeyroos have won their first match of the 2018 Hockey World Cup in London early this morning, defeating Japan 3-2.
Currently ranked fifth in the world, Australia started well, with Ambrosia Malone scoring from a penalty corner in the 17th minute.
Five minutes later Emily Hurtz scored a field goal, giving the Hockeyroos a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime, with the Aussies no doubt feeling strong and happy with the result so far.
Shortly after the halftime break, Jodie Kenny capitalised on the Australian momentum, scoring from a penalty corner and taking Australia's lead out to 3-0, but only a minute later, Japan (12) clawed back a goal via Motomi Kawamura.
From there Japan dominated possession and threated the Hockeyroos at every turn. The Aussies fortunate to hold out a number of shots on goal, and Rachel Lynch delivering some big saves.
