The Newcastle Jets W-League squad continues to go from strength to strength with the signing of German defender Ariane Hingst on a one year deal.

Hingst, who retired from international football after the recent Women's World Cup, is becomes the latest big name to join the hunter side after the recent signings of Matildas Melissa Barbieri and Lisa De Vanna.

The 32 year old former German international comes with a wealth of experience having competed in two winning World Cups, four European Championships and 3 bronze medals at the Olympic games.

“We are delighted to have obtained Ariane's services for the coming W-League season,” said Head Coach Clayton Zane.

“She will provide leadership on and off the park and will help strengthen our team defensively."

“With such a young squad, containing six 'Young Matildas', Ariane will help our players understand the requirements to become better professionals.

While Hingst's signature is now on the paper, the deal is currently only being held up by a current Visa application.

“All parties are aware that her signing is fully dependent on a Visa which we are working hard to obtain.”

If that issue is resolved, it will be a strong Newcastle Jets squad that will be running out in Season Four of the Westfield W-League. Hingst joins her new teammates later this week to commence training ahead of the Jets' first game on Saturday October 29 at Adamstown Oval.
