It is the Cats’ first big signing ahead of their entry into the competition next season.

Hickey was one the first signings alongside Daisy Pearce in the inaugural AFLW side for Melbourne.

The 33-year-old is believed to have an off-field role with the club, a mentoring position which is set to start soon.

She is also expected to be fit for round one next season after she tore her ACL against Carlton in round six.

Foxfooty.com.au reported yesterday the club were trying to lure Hickey's teammate Lily Mithen to Geelong as well but it is unknown at this stage if the move will take place.

Hickey becomes the second player to join a new 2019 AFLW inductee club after 2018 Best and Fairest, Emma Kearney nominated North Melbourne as her club of choice for next season.
