The AFL ruled against the 28-year-old nomination for the AFLW Draft this season but reiterated that the decision only applied for 2018. 

Now, the AFL has signed off on an order which allows her to play in any AFL affiliated competition.

Generally, eligibility decisions are made by State and local leagues.

However, after today's decision, the AFL strongly encourages all competitions to adopt this recommendation to facilitate the inclusion of trans players.

The Australian Sports Commission and Australian Human Rights Commission are jointly working on a trans and gender diverse participation framework for Australian sports.
 
The GM of Inclusion and Social Policy, Tanya Hosch said that the AFL is committed to ensuring even and fair competition as well as breaking down barriers to playing or participating in our game.

“We are committed to inclusion, and want all Australians to be able to play or participate in our game," she said. 

These are complex issues and we are considering expert opinion, international frameworks and feedback from the communities that are impacted by our decisions."
