Perth Glory have announced the signing of Canadian defender Shelina Zadorsky for the 2014 W-League season.
Zadorsky, a former Canadian youth international with one senior cap, joins the Glory after a season with the Ottawa Fury in the USL W-League.
“I want to help lead a strong back line, one that is hard for teams to break down,” said Zadorsky of her move to the Glory.
"All in all, I hope to provide a positive presence on and off the field and consistently perform at my highest level.”
The Fury captain is the first in a raft of signings that Glory have made as they look to return to the finals after finishing 5th last season.
With fellow Canadian Sasha Andrews not returning and goalkeeper Chantel Jones signing with Canberra United, the 21 year old will be the Glory's only international signing for the 2014 season.
Zadorsky is Glory coach Jamie Harnwell's first step towards re-building a defence that conceded 31 goals, the second worst record in the W-League.
“She is a young, ambitious player who has been highly recommended from a number of sources," said Harnwell.
"I’m sure she is going to be a huge asset for the club as we look to get back into the top four this season.”
Shelina Zadorsky arrives in Perth later this month with the Glory commencing their season at Ashfield Sports Club on September 14 against Season 6 grand finalists Brisbane Roar.
