This is Gilmore's first win in Brazil and her second win of the season, after winning in Bells Beach earlier this year.

The win also keeps Gilmore in the lead ahead of American Lakey Peterson who won the first event at the Roxy Gold Coast Pro.

Six time World Champion Gilmore has had a great start to 2018 and sees herself in early contention for another title.

Gilmore scored 6.43 on her first wave and 5.10 on her second for a total of 11.53 and took her to a 3.53 victory over Peterson who scored 3.67 and 4.33 on her waves respectively.

Gilmore also defeated fellow Australians Nikki Van Dijk in the semi final and Sally Fitzgibbons in the quarter final.

Defending World and Rio Champion, Australian Tyler Wright was knocked out in Round 3.
