A second half blitz has seen 2016 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup bronze medalists Japan down Australia 5-1 in their second match the AFC U19 Women's Championships at Jiangsu Training Base in Nanjing, China.

Remy Siemsen netted her second goal of the tournament to give the Young Matildas a lead at the break before Asato Miyagawa, Honoka Hayashi, Hinata Miyazawa and Saori Takarada turned the tide in the second half.

It was a promising start for Gary van Egmond's side who employed a high press to take away time from the technically superb Japan.

The pressure paid off in the 13th minute when Ally Green's long ball out of defence saw Siemsen put the Reina Nagashima under the pump.  The defender's miscued back pass fell into the path of Siemsen who produced a calm finish to give Australia the lead.

Despite being down, Japan continued to put Australia under pressure and not long after star striker Riko Ueki had just onto the roof of the net.

Ueki was again causing problems later in the half when she produced a surging run before forcing a near post save from Jada Whyman.

Just before the break Japan again went close as a short corner finished with Asato Miyagawa's strike flashing just wide and hitting side netting.

While Australia had held on for the half time lead, just after the break the Young Nadeshiko were level.

A neat 1-2 saw Ueki in behind the defence with her initial shot saved by Whyman.  Miyagawa was there for the loose ball and this time she made no mistake.

Seven minutes later Young Nadeshiko had the deserved lead as the brilliant Ueki again played provider as she laid off to captain Honoka Hayashi.  The teenager unleashed a stunning strike from distance past a flying Whyman.

Well on top, Japan looked to press home the advantage and in the 67th minute they had three as a cleverly crafted team move put all their technical brilliance on display finishing with a calm finish from Hinata Miyazawa.

The talented Ueki gave her third assist of the night as she danced and weaved her way into the Aussie box with Saori Takarada this time the beneficiary at the back post.

Takarada put the icing on the cake for Japan in the additional time to send them top of Group B.

"Obviously we are a bit disappointed," said goalscorer Remy Siemsen post match.

"We gave them too much space and they took control of the game in the second half and they made the most of their chances."

"We are very disappointed but we are still in this and we are still looking to qualify and make the semi finals."

"Time to re-focus and focus on the game against Vietnam."

Australia still has an opportunity to advance from Group B when they face Vietnam in their final group game on Sunday, 22 October with kick off at 6.00pm (AEDST).
