Yesterday we got our first view of the Matildas on EA Sports' successful FIFA franchise and it looks fantastic.

In June this year the global gaming giant announced the inclusion of women's national teams - including Australia - in FIFA 16 and the ground breaking work appears to have paid off.

FIFA 16 gives gamers the option of participating as 12 national team including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and the USA.

Since the beginning of the year EA has worked with those federations to undertake head-scans, facial features and hairstyles of all the players and, for the most part, the results are incredibly life-like.

Small details have also been noted from Katrina Gorry's side bun, through to Emily van Egmond's socks never quite staying up. Although, disappointingly, there is no ribbon for Hayley Raso!

To also capture the difference in movement from male and female players, EA employed players of the USA and Canada to help capture the movements with a 360-degree body-scanning rig.

The women’s teams are available in Match Day, an Offline Tournament and Online Friendly Matches.

FIFA 16 is released in Australia on Thursday, 24 September 2015 with defender Stephanie Catley on teh cover alongside Tim Cahill and Lionel Messi.

FIFA 16 is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
