The Queensland Firebirds will be using the heartbreak of missing last seasons finals as motivation when they come up against the Magpies this weekend.
"It still stings thinking about it," goal attack Gretel Tippett said.
"I think it put a fire in our bellies for this season and we're not there yet but we will be taking that motivation and using it for this weekend," she said.
It is set to be an emotional game for Erin Bell, Shae Brown and Sharni Layton as they are all retiring from netball. It is also set to be a battle as the Firebirds have never beaten the Magpies in their previous three meetings.
Earlier this season, the Magpies took a 67-62 victory and it was one of their only three wins this season.
At the moment the Firebirds sit in fourth with a point separating them from third and five points ahead of fifth. However, they head into the game against the Magpies with three straight wins including victories over the two top teams West Coast Fever and Giants Netball.
"We had a little meeting before Perth and we said if we can't win these last three games, we don't deserve to be in finals," Tippett said.
"It's kind of come down to that really.
"If we can't manage to get the win on Saturday, I think going into finals, we will make it very difficult for ourselves," she said.
The Firebirds take on the Magpies on Sunday 3pm at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
