Adelaide United momentarily move to the top of the table courtesy of Veronica Latsko who opened the scoring for the home side with a neat tap-in and an own-goal from Natasha Prior.

There were plenty of other chances for both sides, but Adelaide's defence was impressive and kept Canberra at bay.

The Reds were on fire early and started the brighter of the two sides as Michelle Heyman sprinted to the byline in the eighth minute and cut the ball to Latsko, but her shot was blocked from six yards out.

Canberra started to advance on their attack, but their shots were tamed by Adelaide's solid defence, and keeper, Sarah Willacy

Ellie Carpenter's free-kick from the edge of the box took a wicked deflection off of Heyman that flashed past Adelaide's goal.

It was Carpenter again, who evaded her marker but skied her effort over the crossbar in the 23rd minute. Not long after, Heyman delivered a pin-point cross from the back post for Latsko to finish off and make it 1-0.

For the remainder of the half, both sides had their fair share of chances but nothing clear-cut, with Adelaide's defence being immense.

In the dying minutes of the first half, the Icelandic duo linked-up in a brilliant piece of play for a chance on goal, as Fanndis Fridriksdottir crossed in for Gunnhildur Jonsdottir, but her shot was sent over the bar.

As the second-half progressed, Adelaide's defence remained tight, as they thwarted a dangerous Carpenter after a drive into the area.

Heyman was sent on a run forward through on goal by Amber Brooks, but her pass into the box for Latsko was intercepted in a threatening moment.

Just under the hour mark, Madelyn Whitall had her effort forced past the post after it was smothered by Willacy.

Heyman then forced a diving save from Sham Khamis, as she almost put away her header in a fantastic effort to double Adelaide's advantage.

The score-line stood at 1-0, as Adelaide looked comfortable to sit deep and soak up Canberra's pressure.

An own-goal made it 2-0 for Adelaide in the 86th minute, with Latsko's shot initially saved by Khamis, then ricocheting into the back of the net off of Prior.

It was a solid performance from the home side, as they add another clean sheet to the tally.

In Round 5, Adelaide United travel to C.B Smith Reserve to take on Melbourne City, while Canberra United host Sydney FC.
