Matildas midfielder Alex Chidiac has signed with Japanese Team JEF United for the upcoming inaugural year of the Japanese WE League.
Matilda midfielder Alex Chidiac has announced that she has signed a contract with Japanese Team JEF United.
No details about the duration of her contract were given. The team is based in Ichihara in the Chiba Prefecture of Japan.
Chidiac will be part of the team’s first season in the Japanese WE League. The WE League, which stands for Women’s Empowerment league, will be replacing the Nadeshiko League as the top flight of Japanese football.
Unlike the previous semi-professional Nadeshiko, the aim of the WE league is to have a professional women’s league in Japan. Eleven clubs will be part of the first season.

Chidiac will join JEF United after a resurgent season at Melbourne City. The 20-year old joined them for the 2020-21 W-League season after three seasons at Atlético Madrid.
While her time in Spain started very well, with her first season seeing her feature twenty times for Atlético, her next two seasons were blighted with injury.
The young Australian, who first featured for the Matildas in 2017, has recently been called to her first camp under new head coach Tony Gustavsson.
She is part of the current squad for the upcoming friendlies with Denmark and Sweden and is aiming to be part of the final squad for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
