Hesterine de Reus has today announced the 20 player squad to take on the Netherlands and France in the upcoming two week European Tour.
The squad has seen the retention of the majority of the squad that enjoyed a 2 - 0 series win over New Zealand. Additionally de Reus has called in US based players Lisa de Vanna (Sky Blue FC), Caitlin Foord (Sky Blue FC) and Kyah Simon (Boston Breakers) while Swedish based Lydia Williams (Pitea) returns to the national team for the first time in almost two year.
“We have some new players coming in for the tour including Lisa de Vanna, Kyah Simon and Caitlin Foord so it will be good to see how they work into our structure.
"It is great to have Lydia Williams back in the squad; she brings a lot of experience to the team and will be great competition for Brianna (Davey) who had two fantastic games in goal against New Zealand and is really growing in confidence.”
The tour will see the Matildas play World No. 14 the Nederlands. club side Ado Den Haag before a testing encounter with World No. 5 France.
“I am happy with how we are progressing. Our organisation is getting better and the team is starting to become more familiar with their positions and the structure.
“It will be good to have a new challenge against some very experienced European teams and continue to work on the development of our philosophy and style.
The squad departs tomorrow evening.
