The Emeralds got their World Cup campaign off to the best possible start with an emphatic 12-4 win over 9th ranked Cuba.
The game got underway in warm but overcast conditions at Space Coast stadium in Viera Florida.
After shutting down the Cubans in the first the Emeralds started positively scoring 2 in their own half of the innings on a couple of extra base hits from Natalie House and Chelsea Forkin.
Cuba briefly took the lead in the 2nd when Emeralds starter Kim McMillan got into some trouble but the Emeralds recovered to regain the lead with some consistent and timely hitting over the next 2.
In the 4th, Laura Neads took over on the hill for Australia and got through the innings unscathed but unfortunately after getting the first two baserunners aboard in the 4th the game was firstly interrupted and eventually suspended due to storms.
The game resumed the following morning and the Australian offence exploded for another 6 runs with solid hitting and aided by some sloppy Cuban defence.
Laura Neads continued where she left off the previous day shutting out the opposition for the next three innings ensuring a great first up win.
