At last night's FFSA Women’s and Girls’ Awards Night, new coach David Edmondson unveiled his squad for the upcoming W-League season. The squad is comprised predominantly of young, local talent, but has been strengthened by the inclusion of three experienced internationals.
After a disappointing couple of seasons, the fresh started under FFSA administration has seen the squad take on a local, youthful look with 10 players under the age of 21 including Australian Women’s U17 trio Emma Checker, Grace Henry and Ebony Philcox.
Daniela Di Bartolo, Vanessa Reed and Katherine Ebbs have all been rewarded for good seasons and been selected for their maiden WWL season.
The talented nucleus of last year's side remains with Ruth Wallace, Rachael Quigley, Angela Fimmano, Donna Cockayne, Georgia Macri, Nenita Burgess, Sian McLaren just some of the names returning and hoping to improve on last year’s performances.
Leading the squad this season will be W-League newcomer and New Zealand international Abby Erceg with the 21 year old named captain. Fellow NZ international Anna Green will also make her debut while well regarded USA striker Ashleigh Gunning returns for her second season.
Adelaide United kick-off their Westfield W-League campaign against Canberra United on Saturday, October 22 at Hindmarsh Stadium in a curtain raiser to the Hyundai A-League match between Adelaide United and Sydney FC.
