De Vanna on the move to Newcastle | TWG

With Season Four of the Westfield W-League less than a month away, the Newcastle Jets continue on their quest to build a championship winning squad as they today announced the signing of Matildas' striker Lisa De Vanna.
De Vanna, who scored the match winning goal in last season's grand final, joins Matildas captain and goalkeeper Melissa Barbieri as the latest big name signing by the Hunter club.
“Lisa will be excitement plus for football fans and especially for those of the Jets,” said Assistant Coach Joey Peters.
“Her brilliant speed, skills and aggressive approach are captivating to watch and she will boost the team no end."
Led by Cheryl Salisbury and Peters, the Newcastle Jets side qualified for the finals in the inaugural season of the W-League. However, since the retirement of the Matildas stalwarts, the club has struggled to return to those heights.
While last season was encouraging with the emergence of several promising young players including Young Matildas Tara Andrews and Hannah Brewer, the addition of Barberi and now De Vanna see them building as real title contenders.
“Lisa is a potential combination with local talent Tara up front, which would spell danger to any opposition." stated Peters.
The Jets have also announced the signing for four Young Matildas currently in camp in Brisbane ahead of next months World Cup qualifiers in Vietnam.
While the names are significant, Newcastle are not done yet and are currently in talks with two times World Cup winning German defender Ariane Hingst and Matildas emerging star Emily van Egmond.
