Canberra United have announced their provisional squad for the 2010/11 Westfield W-League with the biggest coup being the pick up of current Westfield W-League Player of the year and Golden Boot holder Michelle Heyman.
Heyman, who claimed the Golden Boot thanks to eleven goals in Season Two is joined the at United by her Mariners' captain and central defender Caitlin Cooper and the impressive Lyndsay Glohe.
Cooper and Glohe are a real boost for the defence of Canberra with both players having gained Australian caps and will strengthen a defence already consisting of reliable co-captains Ellie Brush and Lydia Williams.
Having spent Season Three in the technical area, the Canberra forward line gets boast with the return of Australian striker Caitlin Munoz as the forward returns for a season ending knee injury. Munoz finished the Golden Boot winner in the The Tradies Premier League (ACT women's competition) and will be wanting to add to her four goals in Season One. The midfield is strengthened by Asian Cup winning Matilda Sally Shippard and the return of the colourful Tseng Shu-O from Chinese Taipei.
Not forgetting the current squad players which include dual international Ellyse Perry and Westfield Young Matilda’s international Emily Van Egmond, there is plenty of depth in the Canberra squad.
Will all this talent at his disposal, it's not surprising that Canberra coach Ray Junna is very excited at the season ahead. “I’m very happy with where we are in terms of the squad at the moment.” Junna said. “There are still a few spots left to be finalised but the quality of signings we have been able to make have given us excellent depth and we can look forward to a promising season ahead.”
