Canberra United have announced the signing of New Zealand international and former Perth Glory striker Emma Kete. Kete joins the W-League leaders for the final four weeks of the season.

"I got the good news last night that they want me to stay and I am super excited about it all," said Kete on joining Canberra.

"I am ready to play and hope that all the rest of it is behind me and hope that I can do well for Canberra."

Canberra becomes Kete's second club in less than a month following her release from Perth Glory in early December. The move to the capital happened in relatively quickly and was initiated by new team mate and fellow Kiwi Aroon Clansey.

"After everything happened she called me to see if I was okay," she remembered. "She then hinted that she would have a word to Jitka [Klimkova] and if I would be interested in coming."

"I never really thought anything would come of it with Canberra being such a strong side and a really good attacking combination, but Jitka gave me a call and she said that I could come in for a week. "

Kete's availability comes at an ideal time for the W-League leaders with striker Caitlin Munoz unavailble for 2 – 4 weeks following a knee injury sustained last weekend. Add to that youngster Kahlia Hogg's departure to the US and Leah Blayney's full season unavailability, then the Canberra roster was starting to look a little bare.

With only a few weeks left in this season of the W-League, Kete is looking to slide seamlessly into the undefeated United formation.

"It has pretty positive from the start. The girls were really friendly and the standards are very high on and off the field."

"Hopefully I can try and add something a bit more to their strength already and help them in some ways to win the W-League."

As to whether she will play tomorrow?

"Well I am on the roster for tomorrow but it just will depend on Jitka."
