Washington, who arrived yesterday, has been signed as injury cover for the defending champions and will look to be deployed as a midfielder/striker.
“We are delighted to welcome Nikki to Canberra United and are looking forward to seeing her wearing the green shirt,” said Canberra United CEO Heather Reid.
“Nikki comes highly recommended by her former college coach Anson Dorrance and other US Technical Staff. She is a dynamic right-sided midfield player who has also been playing as a striker and we hope she will be finding the net for us regularly!”
The 24 year old has storied pedigree in US game and was an important member of the 2008 U20 World Cup winning side that included the likes of Sydney Leroux and FIFA World Player of the Year nominee Alex Morgan. She also comes out of the games University of North Carolina football program which has spawned several WPS players and US WNT members Heather O'Reilly, Tobin Heath and Whitney Engen.
In the WPS era she suited up for magicJack, Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, Saint Louis Athletica, Sky Blue FC and Los Angeles Sol.
Washington spent the recent football season with the Pali Blues helping the side take out the Western Conference title and the finish runners up in the USL W-League, going down to Ottawa Fury in the Championship game.
