New Brisbane Roar head coach Melissa Andreatta has announced her first W-League squad players for the 2016/17 season.

The squad has several Roar veterans including the second highest capped current Matilda and W-League player, captain Clare Polkinghorne.

As well as a majority of last season's squad who pushed eventual champions Melbourne City in the semi final, there will be some new faces to the wear the orange jersey.

Queenslander Mackenzie Arnold returns home and is set to wear the gloves for her home state after several seasons at Perth Glory, Canberra United and the Western Sydney Wanderers.

"As a Queenslander, it’s an honour to sign for the Brisbane Roar Football Club," she said. "It’s great to be joining such a successful group of players and I’m really happy to be home."

Arnold joins Rio 2016 Olympics teammates Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry as well as a Roar stalwarts Amy Chapman and Brooke Spence.

Brisbane have also added some new international faces to the squad with Orlando Pride midfielder Maddy Evans and Danish FC Rosengård defender Nina Frausing-Pedersen.

The duo provides experience to support young players including Sunny Franco, who returns to Brisbane following a season with Sydney FC, Brisbane's 2015-16 Player of the Year Angela Beard and Young Matildas' striker Cortnee Vine.

"It’s great that this group of committed footballers who love the club can now focus on the upcoming [Westfield] W-League campaign," said Andreatta.

"As a squad we’ve been working extremely hard throughout pre-season and we can’t wait for that first game against one of our biggest rivals, Sydney FC.

"I believe we have the players to have a successful season in what will be a highly competitive Westfield W-League competition."

Brisbane still have five squad positions left to be filled.

The two time W-League champions kick off Season 9 on Saturday, 5 November 2016.
