Canberra United midfielder Leah Blayney will miss the start of the Westfield W-League.  The 25 year old underwent surgery on an bothersome ankle injury will see her sidelined for the first two-four weeks of Season Four.“We are sorry to hear that Leah will miss the start of the Westfield W-league season,” said Canberra United CEO Heather Reid. “We know the quality that Leah brings to the team and it’s disappointing that she will be sidelined for the first part of the year. We wish her the best of luck for the operation and for a speedy recovery.”

Blayney sustained the injury playing for the Boston Breakers in the Women’s Professional Soccer and despite constant physio, it has been unable to recover without surgical assistance.  It will be a loss for United with the playmaker proving an important part of the Green Machine's midfield last season.

Canberra United will tomorrow name their squad for the opening match away to Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium, tomorrow. The squad departs for South Australia on Friday afternoon with the match scheduled for a 1.45pm kick off, local time.
