Undefeated Belconnen United and Canberra United Academy will come together tomorrow night in the Women's Federation Cup Final.
Belconnen and Canberra, who sit first and second on the NPL Women’s table respectively, will battle it out for the crown once again after Belconnen won 5-2 in 2017. However, it is only the beginning of the two teams meeting with two more battles expected in the coming fortnight.
Belconnen have remained undefeated this season, only dropping points to Gungahlin United FC in a 1-1 draw, and have managed to concede only five goals in 21 games.
"Were definitely undefeated but not assured a win tomorrow night in the Fed Cup Final," Belconnen coach Antoni Jagarinec said.
"Canberra United are a quality team and it's a Cup match so not a show in. There are 90 minutes of football and maybe some extra time and penalties too.
"We will go out there confident but wary of them as well," he said.
Jagarinec has worked with the Canberra United Academy during the year and knows what to expect in the match tomorrow night but for coach Ryan Grogan its a chance for his side to gain more experience against one of the best teams.
"From our point of view, we have 100 percent respect for Belconnen and recognise their success this year," he said.
"But in terms of intimidation, our aim with this program is to expose players to high-pressure climates against the best sides.
"So tomorrow night in the Cup final, it's another learning opportunity for my players and we are looking forward to it," Grogan said.
There will be some familiar faces out on the pitch tomorrow night including Aoife Colvill (Canberra), Cecilija Matic (Canberra), Karly Roestbakken (Canberra) Caitlin Munoz (Belconnen), and Madelyn Whittall (Belconnen).
The 2018 Women’s Federation Cup Final will take place at McKellar Park this Wednesday, 22nd August with the match streamed live through BarTV Sports.
