Seeded Australians Ash Barty and Daria Gavrilova are set to face trouble if they want to make it deep into the US Open.
In the last Grand Slam of the season, Barty drew a qualifier in the opening round but 2017 Wimbledon winner Garbine Muguruza looming as a third-round match up.
Last week Barty withdraw from the Connecticut Open with a virus but heads into the US Open in back-to-back losses against reigning world No.1 Simona Halep.
Meanwhile, Gavrilova will face Sara Sorribes Tormo in the first round with a second round meeting against former world No.1 Victoria Azarenka.
Yesterday, Gavrilova, who was defending Champion, lost in a third set-thriller to Aryna Sabalenka at the Connecticut Open.
It was a stern learning curve for the world No.24 ahead of the US Open.
There will be an all-Australia battle with Alja Tomljanovic and wildcard Lizette Cabrera going head to head and will guarantee an Australian in the second-round.
However, 2011 Champion Sam Stosur has one of the toughest opening rounds of all the Australians as she takes on world No.2 and reigning Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki.
The US Open main-draw action starts on Monday (Tuesday AEST).
