The Matildas will take on newly crowned World Champions the USA in a two match series in September 2015.

The two matches form part of the Americans post-Women’s World Cup tour and will see Alen Stajcic's side take on the USWNT on Thursday, Sept. 17, at Ford Field in Detroit (7 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1) followed by a match on Sunday, Sept. 20, at historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama (1:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2).

USA and Australia have played regular encounters in the last few years with the USA continuing their unbeaten record with a 3-1 win over the Matildas in the opening match of Group D at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

While the USA it is a tour to celebrate their third World Championship, the matches for Australia commence their preparations for the 2016 AFC Olympic Qualifiers to be held in Japan from 29 February – 9 March 2016.  .

“We can’t ask for better preparation playing the World Champions and the country who is the number one ranked team by a long way now,” Stajcic said.

“We’ll just be looking to build on our momentum. We played pretty well in Canada and showed a good level of football, so our goal is to keep improving on our consistency, on our maturity on the ball, there are still a lot of areas we need to improve on.

“We showed we can be a competitor on the world stage and this will be another good test for us to see how much we have matured and also to fine tune our play before we get to the difficult Olympic qualifiers in February,” Stajcic said.

“This is the first building block on our way to the Olympic Games qualifiers.”

With eight Australian currently playing in the NWSL and two set to be Europe, it will be Stajcic's first opportunity to call up the squad post-World Cup and prior to the W-League commencing on 17 October 2015.
