The Matildas have announced their roster for Rio which means some players have played their last minutes with their clubs until after the Olympic break.  Those who did not make the roster will be looking to make a statement with their play over the next month with their clubs.

USA

The NWSL weekend started with the Western New York Flash taking on the Chicago Red Stars.  Alanna Kennedy and the Flash were able to defeat the Red Stars 2-0.  With the shutout victory, the Flash now move into 2nd place in the NWSL, sitting only five points out of 1st place.

Even at centre-back Kennedy was able to create some offensive chances.

Kyah Simon and the Boston Breakers travelled to the Seattle Reign this past week. The Breakers fell 2-0 to the Reign.

The Breakers may have lost, but Simon tried to produce a spark and get her teammates in front of goal.

This past weekend saw an Aussie vs Aussie matchup when the Portland Thorns hosted Sky Blue FC.  Hayley Raso picked up her first start for the Thorns and helped the team keep the unbeaten streak alive with the Thorns winning 2-1. Sam Kerr saw her most minutes of the season for Sky Blue when she came in into the game in the 55th minute.

Entering the game when it was tied 1-1, Kerr looked to provide the game winner for Sky Blue, but she was unable to find the back of the net.

Raso made an immediate impact in the game and was creating havoc for Sky Blue’s defense.  Her play generated plenty of opportunities for the Thorns and she was even able to earn a penalty which resulted in the winning goal.

Europe

Over in Iceland, UMF Stjarnan played against ÍA.  Jenna McCormick and Stjarnan were able to win handily, beating ÍA 6-0.

McCormick backed up the weekend's big win in the quarter finals of the Cup against Haukar.  Stjarnan were once again dominant as they progressed thanks to  4-0.  McCormick played a full game and also recorded her first goal of the season with a header off a corner in the 6th minute.

With the Damallsvenskan league now half over in Sweden, Mallbackens IF faced off against KIF Örebro.  Tameka Butt was able to help Mallbacken earn a point and tie KIF Örebro 3-3.

The Doncaster Belles were able to pick up their first win this past week when they took on Sunderland, winning 2-1.  Alexandra Gummer did not enter the match for the Belles.

Notts County went up against Yeovil Town in the FAWSL Continental Tyres Cup tournament.  Aivi Luik and Notts County were able to defeat Yeovil Town 3-1. The win has Notts County moving on to the quarter-finals.

Asia

This past week Incheon HS Red Angels took on Daejeon Sportstoto.  Incheon would go onto win 2-1 with the help of Amy Jackson.

Racheal Quigley and the Hwacheon KSPO squared off against the Seoul Amazones earlier this week.  Unfortunately, Hwacheon KSPO could not pull off the win and fell 2-0.

Suwon FMC tried to carry their momentum from last week and secure another win when they played against Icheon Daekyo.  Gema Simon and Suwon were unable to come out of the game victorious and lost 2-1.

The battle for first place in the WK League took place when Icheon Daekyo matched up against Incheon HS Red Angels.  Neither side was able to walk away with a win and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.  Incheon HS Red Angels remain in first place based on goal differential. Amy Jackson was an unused sub in the game.

In Suwon FMC’s second game of the week the team faced Busan Sangmu. Gema Simon played a full match for Suwon and was able to help the team earn a point in the 2-2 tie.
