The Leagues are wrapping up play overseas with many Aussies and their clubs in the hunt to claim the championship in their respective leagues.

USA

The final games of the NWSL regular season had playoff implications on the line and saw of the Aussies play their final game of the season for their abroad clubs.

The first game of the NWSL weekend saw two teams eliminated from the playoffs face off, the Orlando Pride and FC Kansas City.  The Pride with the help of starters, Lisa De Vanna and Laura Alleway, were looking to end their season on a high not, but ended up losing 2-1 to FC Kansas City.  The Pride finished the season in 9th place.

Even with the Pride losing Lisa De Vanna was still able to provide offensive chances for the team.

Playoff hopes were on the line when the Western New York Flash took on the Boston Breakers. If the Western New York Flash could beat the Boston Breakers in their weekly matchup then they would be able to solidify a playoff spot. The incentive to continue their season helped Alanna Kennedy and the Flash earn a victory against Kyah Simon and the Breakers by a score of 2-1.  The Breakers finish the season in 10th place.

Samantha Kerr and Sky Blue FC, who are eliminated from the playoffs were hoping to cause an upset and not allow Hayley Raso and the Portland Thorns to earn the NWSL Shield, which is given to the regular season champions. Sky Blue were able to have an early 1-0 lead over the Thorns, but the Thorns were able to score three more goals and win 3-1.  The first round of the NWSL playoffs will have the Western New York Flash and the Portland Thorns face off meaning Alanna Kennedy and Hayley Raso will line up against one another.  Sky Blue FC finished the NWSL season in 7th place.

Hayley Raso was able to assist the final goal for the Thorns with her cross to teammate Allie Long just one minute after coming onto the pitch.

For her week 18 play, Sam Kerr was awarded NWSL Player of the Week due to her 4 goals in 4 games.

When the Houston Dash and the Seattle Reign took the field against one another they were both already eliminated from the playoffs.  Lydia Williams and Ellie Brush both started for the Dash, but the team was unable to hold onto their early 2-0 lead and fell to the Reign 3-2.  The Dash were able to finish their season in 8th place.

Europe

Notts County was able to snap a 7 game winless streak when they took on Sunderland AFC.  Aivi Luik received the starting nod for Notts County who went on to win 2-1.

Chloe Logarzo continues to impress with her new club, Eskilstuna United. Logarzo was able to net her first goal in the team’s 3-1 victory over Göteborg FC.

Tameka Butt of Mallbackens IF was able to earn a starting spot with the team, but they were unable to earn any points from the game as they lost 2-1 to Vittsjö GIK.

Jenna McCormick and first place UMF Stjarnan, were looking to remain in the top spot of the league when they took on KR Reykjavik.  UMF Stjarnan was able to win 3-0.  There is one game remaining in their season and Stjarnan is in first place by 2 points meaning a victory later this week would earn them the league title.

Asia

2 weeks ago in Japan, AS Harima Albion took on Nojima Stella. Ashleigh Sykes was an early second half sub for Albion, coming on in the 46th minute.  Sykes was able to score a goal, but Albion was unable to hold onto the league and lost 2-1.

This past week, Sykes, resumed her role of a second half sub coming in for both of AS Harima Albion’s games in the 46th minute.  Albion took on Ehime FC and Yokohama FC with both games Harima dropped 1-0.

Incheon’s last week matchup saw them take on Busan Sangmu. Amy Jackson was a late sub for Incheon, coming onto the field in the 87th minute to help the team preserve their 2-0 lead and ultimately win the match.

This past week saw a potential Aussie vs. Aussie matchup Incheon took on Suwon.  Gema Simon played a full match for Suwon while Amy Jackson was an unused sub for Incheon.  The Incheon Red Angels would come away with three points by beating Suwon 3-2.

Racheal Quigley and Hwacheon KSPO took on Daejeon Sportstoto last week.  Quigley did get the start for the team, but they fell to Daejeon 3-1. The past week Hwacheon looked to get back on track when they tool on Icheon Daekyo.  Hwacheon with the help of a full match performance from Quigley were able to win 1-0.
