Aussie Spirit suffered an 8-1 loss against Japan in their final group stage match overnight.
Down 3-0 at the end of the first innings presented a significant challenge against the number 2 ranked team in the world.
Australia’s first and only run was scored via a wayward pitch striking Carmelle Sorensen at bat. With bases loaded, the walk allowed Chelsea Forkin to score.
Leigh Godfrey, Forkin and Jade Wall all scored hits but it wasn’t enough to stop Japan.
The loss sees Australia finish the preliminary rounds in 2nd position on the Group B table with 5 wins and 2 losses from 7 matches. Japan remain undefeated.
Next up, Australia play undefeated Group A leaders and world number 1 USA in the playoff round at 4:30pm today AEST.
