The 27-year-old is at her second Commonwealth Games after competing four years ago in Glasgow, where she finished ninth.

Gentle is excited to be involved in the first medal opportunity at the Games especially in front of a home crowd.

"I've got the incredible opportunity to race in front of a home crowd and to be in the first medal event of the Games," she said.

"I'm embracing it and looking forward to getting out there on Thursday morning.

"Whether I come away with a medal or not I will be racing hard from the gun and that's how I always race," Gentle said.

She was born in South Brisbane but currently studies a Bachelor of Public Health and Nutrition at Griffith University on the Gold Coast.

It has been a big 2017 for Gentle.

In August she became only the fourth Australian woman to win a World Series triathlon in Montreal.

"Montreal was definitely a breakthrough race for me,"  she said.

"It proved to me that no matter how you are feeling that you can overcame those thoughts and feelings and still produce a really great race so I reflect on it in the lead up to races to remind myself of that."

Gentle has set herself a goal of winning a medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 after finishing 26th in Rio.

She will also compete in the Mixed Team Relay on Saturday.
