VILA REAL DE SAN ANTONIO, Portugal — Australia take on the Netherlands in their second match of the Algarve Cup in Vila Real de Santo António.

Australia enters the match looking for their first ever Algarve Cup win after a 1-0 loss to Sweden while the Dutch are looking to add another AFC scalp to their name after they defeated China 1-0.

Team News

Stajcic should again have a full squad to choose from as the players pulled up well after the match against Sweden.  Midfielder Katrina Gorry has served out her suspension and will come into the selection equation.

Previous Encounters

These two sides last met at the Cyprus Cup in 2015. On that occasion it was a back and forth arm wrestle with the Netherlands defence struggling to contain the pacy Matildas strikers.   The Dutch held on until late in the match when substitute Larissa Crummer put away a Lisa De Vanna ball.

Australia’s Player to Watch: Katrina Gorry

Suspended for the match against Sweden, it was evident just how much Gorry has become central to the Matildas midfield and attack.  Gorry finished off her most consistent W-League season yet with the 24 year old controlling much of the Roar's fortunes this year. Stajcic will hope that form continues into the Algarve Cup.

If selected, and why wouldn't she be, Gorry will play her 50th match for Australia.  It is one of the more stellar half centuries that includes an AFC Player of the Year and, of course, a host of "Gorry Specials".

Netherlands’ Player to Watch

At 20 years old, Vivianne Miedema is a certifiable star for the Oranje and her club side, current Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich.

Since bursting onto the scene a couple of years ago, Miedema has netted 34 goals for the Netherlands and 29 for Bayern.  The tall Dutch striker has good movement on and off the ball, a great touch and, most critically for a striker, an excellent finish from distance or close range.  As well as being a finisher,  Miedema has become a creator with the ability to play her teammates into the game.

What to Expect?

Changes should be anticipated in this match as the next set of players get their chance to audition.  Whether it will be subtle or wholesale remains to be seen.

Australia won't be the only team to make a switch with the Dutch, who played an experimental team against China, also anticipated to make big moves as they continue to shape up to host the 2017 Euros.
