In the 91st minute, Adelaide United were awarded a free kick. Abigail Dahlkemper stood with as Hannah Southwell set her wall. Dahlkemper struck with her right foot bending it into the top corner, 5-1. She started the scoring and finished it in style.
The Reds came away with a vital, scoreboard dominate win in the run for the finals taking fourth spot from the Jets in the process.
Coming into the game few onlookers would have imagined a 5-1 score line in favour of any side. The Jets boasted the 2nd best defence in the competition and having already played each other this season, a 1-1 draw, a tight contest would have been expected.
The Jets started brightly with some opportunities early, notably Tara Andrews forcing Savage to tip her long range shot over the bar.
However it was Adelaide who scored the first goal, coming against the run of play somewhat in the 13th minute after hitting the Jets on the counter.
With that, a scoring spree started. The Jets were awarded a penalty just moments later with Tara Andrews levelling the scores in the 19th minute before the Reds took the lead again in the 26th minute and that’s how it stayed until the 2nd half blew out.
Throughout the game the Jets had a number of chances and Jones looked dangerous at times down the flanks but the home side never really looked like troubling Adelaide as poor end product let the down again.
The Jets missed Chloe Logarzo’s passing game with Tara Andrews used in the number 10 role.
They began to push high up the park in the 2nd half when chasing the game and were caught as Rosie Sutton sealed the 3 points after being sent through the heat of the defence one on one with the keeper and despite Southwell saving the initial shot, was able to slot home.
Adelaide won’t content to take the foot off the throttle and with two stunning goals within the final minutes to put the Jets to the sward. The first a left foot curler from just outside the D from Emily Condon found the top corner before Dahlkemper capped off the win with a stunning free kick.
Under Jamie Harnwell the Adelaide United Reds are a well drilled football side. They have flown under the radar somewhat so far this year and have the potential to do some damage to opposition teams as they did to the Jets here.
In round 11 the Jets will welcome back the full services of Chloe Logarzo and Rhali Dobson for their trip to Western Sydney in what is shaping as a must win game if they want to play in the finals.
Adelaide United on the other hand can bask in their win for another week as they have a bye.
