Adelaide United has appointed former Perth Glory coach Jamie Harnwell as their new coach for the 2015/16 season.
Adelaide United has appointed former Perth Glory coach Jamie Harnwell as their new coach for the 2015/16 season.
The appointment comes just days after former coach Ross Aloisi resigned from the club to join A-League side Brisbane Roar.
“Having Jamie lead the Lady Reds this season is an excellent result," said Football Federation South Australia CEO Michael Carter.
"Jamie is a proven W-League coach and we are looking forward to him joining the team and not only coaching the Lady Reds but reviewing our current programs for girls in the State.”
Harnwell endured a bitter split with Perth Glory after the A-League side took over the W-League team from state federation Football West.
Despite leading Glory to the premiership and Grand Final in Season 7, Harnwell was asked to re-apply for the head coach position which he declined.
The 38-year-old, who was also in charge of WA's National Training Centre program, is looking forward to the challenge of a team aiming to continue their recent rise.
“I am looking forward to a new challenge, moving out of my comfort zone after living, playing and coaching in Perth for a number of years.
“The Lady Reds and Michael Carter have been welcoming and I feel this will be a positive move for me.”
Although there is some acrimony with Perth Glory, Harnwell still has a solid relationship with their former administrators Football West and is currently employed as the General Manager of Community Football and Game Development.
He will commence as Adelaide's head coach on 14 September and a leave of absence from this role during the W-League season.
The W-League commences on 17 October 2015.
