Adelaide United has its third coach in 2016 with the club announcing the appointment of Hussein “Huss” Skenderovic as their coach for the 2016/17 W-League season.
Skenderovic's appointment comes following the departure of Mark Jones – Jamie Harnwell's replacement - in September 2016 for the Newcastle Jets' A-League head coach position.
An AFC and FFA "A" Licensed coach, Skenderovic will also head up the club's National Youth League team.
“It is a fantastic feeling to have joined Adelaide United and it’s a very proud moment for me,” he said. “I’m really excited to be part of this club and I can’t wait to get going."
“What we want to achieve is great football through the many different aspects of the game."
After finishing Season 8 with their highest ever points total and best ever position on the W-League table, Adelaide will be looking to go one step further and make their first W-League finals appearance.
Locals Emily Condon and Alex Chidiac are already on board with negotiations continuing with last season's internationals including W-League Goalkeeper of the Year Kaitlyn Savage and influential trio Liz Milne, Abby Dahlkemper and Sarah Killion.
With the coaching changes and late player signing preparation, Skenderovic has a challenging task ahead of him in compiling a team that can challenge for the finals.
“Huss is a very knowledgeable football coach and someone that comes highly recommended,” said General Manager of Football Ante Kovacevic.
“He has worked at many different levels of football in a broad variety of roles in Australia and overseas and has built up a thorough understanding of the essential components of the professional game.
“Huss will continue to implement the same style of football that our men’s team produces and I’m sure our W-League and NYL teams will benefit from his experience.”
Most recently the 2016 head coach of Dandenong Thunder in Victoria’s National Premier, Skenderovic's experience has taken him to India and the Indian Super League (FC Goa), as well as the United Arab Emirates as Technical Director of Ajman Football Club and Technical Video Analyst for the United Arab Emirates U17 national squad in 2014.
Adelaide United supporters will be hoping that experience translates well to the W-League.
The Reds kick off their season at home to Melbourne Victory at Coopers Stadium on 6 November 2016.
