After falling short in the Season 5 grand final, Melbourne Victory were among the favourites to take out the Season 6 championship.

And then Round 1 happened.

The Victory were convincing beaten 5-1 by the goalscoring machine that would be Sydney FC.

However once their class stable of imports arrived, including the talismanic Jessica Fishlock, the Victory slowly transformed into the championship contender many predicted.

The key match for the eventual champions was a mid-season return clash against Sydney FC. Led by Fishlock (that name again), the Victory salvaged a confidence boosting draw with the Sky Blues.

They then went on to defeat the Sky Blues in a classic semi final before easily accounting for the Brisbane Roar in the final.

It was a maiden championship earned the hard way.

 

Season 6 also was notable for the potent power that was Sydney FC in a year that saw them recognised as one of the best women's club sides in the world.

It was also saw one of the most thrilling premiership battles with Canberra United timing their run perfectly to pip Sydney to the regular season title on the final match of the final round.
