For nearly a decade Brazil have been at the pinnacle of the women's game internationally and in April Australia hosted the then Top 5 ranked Brazil in a two match series.
Prodigiously talented, skilful and technical, even without their star Marta, As Canarinhas were going to be tough opposition for the Matildas with a near full strength squad brought to Brisbane.
The two nations were evenly matched in the Game 1, with the Brazilians led by Fabiana, Formiga, Rosana and Cristiane just edging out Australia 1-0.
Game 2 saw another closely fought tussle with the Matildas coming out on top 2 - 1 on that occasion to level the series 1-1.
For the Matildas it was a much needed result after below par performances in March's Cyprus Cup and amid the news of unrest surrounding the camp.
The victory also helped Australia jump back into the world Top 10 after dropping out for the first time in 3 years.
