They left it very late but Canberra United timed their run perfectly to pip premiers Perth Glory to the Season 7 W-League championship.

Moved to accommodate January 2015's Asian Cup, it was a season of surprises and contradictions.

It was one of the more even seasons with all teams picking up points and obtaining upset results.  On any given day, any side could defeat another with the Wanderers defeating Brisbane a week after a record loss, Adelaide jumping runaway ladder leaders Perth and the Jets rebounding spectacularly from a dismal Season 6.

However, it was also one of the blowout seasons with Perth Glory claiming the premiership in record time.

With an enviable mix of youth and experience, stars and team players, the Glory grabbed a stranglehold on the competition and never let go - well and until Canberra prised it out of their hands on the final day.

Glory notched up all the a fistful of records (highest ever points tally, goals scored and goal difference) but in the end it was the experienced and finals hardened Canberra United who proved their undoing.

Having to defeat Perth in the final round to guarantee a place in the finals series, Canberra then took that form into the last two matches with stellar performances in the semi and grand final.

All played their part from Chantel Jones saving a crucial penalty in the semi final shootout to Lori Lindsey supplying the killer pass for Player of the Grand Final Ashleigh Sykes to score the winning goal.

A second championship, two premierships, three grand finals and six finals appearances, Canberra United can now take their seat as one of the great clubs of the W-League era.
