No Glory?

Glory can play football, but they can’t take their opportunities.

It was fair to say that Perth had most of the first half’s attacking chances and had plenty of occasions where they could’ve gone 1-0 up.

Within the first two minutes of the game, the Glory had their first chance on goal – a superb strike from Kat Jukic followed by Morgan Andrews hitting the side netting.

There were positive signs from the start for Perth. The home side hit the cross bar and controlled most of the first half.

In a game that Melbourne Victory would have backed themselves to win, for a while it seemed like Perth would be picking up the three points instead.

When Glory were awarded a penalty in the box, it appeared that they were on their way to winning their first game of the season.

But instead of making the most of these opportunities, the Western Australians failed at the final hurdle.

Beautiful build-up play amounted to nothing. Their hard work resulted in missed chances, and before they knew it, they were down by two goals.

Glory managed to capitalise on a Victory mistake in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to win them the match.

Casey Dumont in form

Melbourne Victory’s keeper has been on fire recently, and she didn’t put a foot wrong in tonight’s match either.

Dumont saved yet another penalty tonight (her third penalty save of the season so far).

This time Crystal Thomas took the kick, but it was poorly placed and under hit.

But all credit goes to Dumont, who was able to easily read the penalty and calmly get low to keep her team in the game in such an important moment.

The keeper almost had to be removed from the field towards the end of the second half after securing the ball in an aerial battle, but Dumont was okay to continue after receiving treatment.

Her exceptional performance against Perth comes off the back of an amazing double save against Brisbane last week, and an all-over stellar season so far.

Dumont has been outstanding, especially in moments when she’s put under pressure. She’s a quality keeper who has helped Melbourne in some crucial instances so far this season.

24' How about @CaseyDumont!? She saves her THIRD penalty of the season, denying Crystal Thomas #PERvMVC 0-0 #WLeague

Amy Jackson can strike a ball

We haven’t seen a strike like this from Jackson for some time, but tonight the 32-year-old reminded us what she is capable of.

In the 33rd minute of the match, Jackson delivered a fantastic strike from 25 metres out which is sure to be considered as one of the greatest goals this season so far.

Her left-footed belter rebounded off the top of the crossbar and over the line beautifully, making the score 1-0 to the Victory.

Jackson went on to score the second goal for her side too – a less impressive although equally as important header from one metre out of the goal line.

But it was the midfielder’s first strike that was the talk of the game.

Watch her goal below to relive the magic (and then watch it again and again and again – how good!)
