Today marks the 10th anniversary of the first W-League game where Sydney FC defeated Perth Glory 4-0 but the day also marked the start of a new era in women's football for Australia.
It was the first time female footballers had a professional competition since the NSWL which folded in 2004.
Also on October 25, 2008, two other matches took place with Melbourne Victory defeating Central Coast Mariners 2-0 and Queensland Roar taking a 4-1 win against Adelaide United.
Rounding out the opening round was the Newcastle Jets and Canberra United on Sunday afternoon with the Jets taking a 2-1 win.
