In the lead up to the Ice Hockey World Championships, the AWIHL Finals were held in Melbourne at the O'Brien Group Arena.
Melbourne Ice defeated the Sydney Sirens 4-2 in the Grand Final and Brisbane Goannas defected Adelaide Rush 2-1 in the Bronze medal playoff.
